Revolver (revolverband.com) is back to their favorite venue! This time they're choosing a less-known, but nonetheless great, Beatles album:
"Beatles for Sale" is the group's fourth studio album, released on December 4, 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone. The album marked a turning point in the evolution of the Lennon–McCartney partnership, John Lennon particularly now showing interest in composing songs of a more autobiographical nature. "I'm a Loser" shows Lennon for the first time coming under the influence of Bob Dylan, whom he met in New York while on tour, on August 28, 1964. The non-album tracks "I Feel Fine" and "She's a Woman" performed the singles' role. That coupling was followed up in the United States by "Eight Days a Week", which became their seventh number one in March 1965.
The album hit the UK number one spot and retained that position for 11 of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top 20. "Beatles for Sale" did not surface as a regular album in the US until 1987. In its place was Beatles '65 which featured eight songs from "Beatles for Sale", plus the A and B-side of "I Feel Fine" and "I'll Be Back" from the UK's A Hard Day's Night album. Beatles '65 enjoyed a nine-week run at the top of the US charts beginning in January 1965. Most of the rest of the songs from "Beatles for Sale" appeared on another US album, "Beatles VI".
Revolver is: Michael Budash on guitars, keyboards and vocals, Barry Blum on bass guitar, guitars, keyboards and vocals, and Dan Durkin on drums, rhythm guitar, keyboards, harmonica and vocals. All three members have distinguished writing and musical credits to their names that include songwriting, performances, recordings, commercials, and film soundtracks.

| | | | 16 Sun | Napa Valley Jazz Society 4pm
 | NAPA VALLEY JAZZ SOCIETY PRESENTS THE SAN FRANCISCO JAZZ QUARTET:
The SFJQ – consisting of Nolan Gasser, Roger Glenn, Terry Miller, and Andy Eberhard – is dedicated to the full range of jazz, with a focus on hard-swinging standards, hip originals, and the rarely heard hinterland between jazz and classical music. Their compelling shows range from straight-ahead concerts to elegant mixes of music and lecture – particularly regarding the genesis of jazz as a mix of European and African roots, and the innovative ways that jazz and classical have blended through the years, up to the present day.
Each cat in the SFJQ brings to the bandstand a lifetime of experience in jazz and other musical styles, which they blend together in a magical and very unique way. The whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts – though the parts are pretty darn good.
The roots of the Quartet go back to 2000, but they’ve just released a debut CD, Ode to Swing, which illustrates their varied interests and skills.
Check out the SFJQ’s website @ www.sanfranciscojazzquartet.com click on “Music” to sample some really fine clips. This is going to be a classy, top-flight concert!

  | THE PETE ESCOVEDO LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE: (ALL AGES) $30 Gen Adm & $35 Reserved Seating & $40 @ the Door, $21 Club Members.
A VIP SEATING OPTION (UPSTAIRS, INCLUDES MEET & GREET, ENTRY, A COCKTAIL & YOUR OWN SERVER)
An Evening of Latin Jazz Featuring Pete Escovedo and His Orchestra
A California native, Escovedo was raised in Oakland. Together, Pete and Coke (his brother, who passed away a number of years ago) became the most in-demand rhythm section in Northern California. "Eventually we thought maybe it's time to put our own band together," Pete says.
The Escovedo Brothers Latin Jazz Sextet grew into one of the most popular Latin jazz combos in California. The addition of Pete's younger brother Phil Escovedo on bass cemented the family band, until the late '60s when guitarist Carlos Santana hired Coke and Pete for his hugely popular group. "That was our entry into the Latin rock scene," says Pete.
Pete toured with Santana for three years, performing internationally and playing on three Santana albums: Moonflower, Oneness and Inner Secrets.
Today, Escovedo leads what is widely considered one of the finest ensembles in Latin jazz, a mix of musicians from both Los Angeles and the Bay Area.
Since moving to L.A. two years ago, he is working more with daughter Sheila E. "When we perform in Southern California, I always check to see if she wants the gig," Pete says. "Although with my group, she works for scale!" For Live!, which was recorded in San Diego during the summer of 2002, Escovedo's sons, percussionist son Juan and brother Peter Michael, joined the ensemble of talented Latin jazz musicians on-stage to make this a truly swinging family affair.
The end result is a joyous concoction of Latin rhythms with elements of jazz, R&B and funk that is hard to resist. Latin jazz fan around the world will rejoice.
